How the checker finds a site's host
There is no public list of which website is on which host. What is public is the chain from a domain name to a server, and the registries that record who owns every block of IP addresses. The checker follows that chain in three steps.
Domain to IP address
We ask DNS where the name points, the same question a browser asks before it loads the page. The answer is one or more IP addresses, plus a CNAME alias if the site uses one.
IP address to network owner
Every IP address belongs to a block registered with one of five regional registries. We ask the right one (APNIC for India and Asia, ARIN, RIPE, LACNIC or AFRINIC) who holds the block and in which country.
Nameservers as a second opinion
The domain's nameservers show who runs its DNS. Often it is the same company as the host; sometimes it is the registrar or Cloudflare. Put together, the two answers usually identify the host.
Reading the result honestly
A hosting checker gives you facts about a server, not a signed statement from the site owner. Here is how to interpret the four answers you will see most often.
A hosting company's name
If the network owner is a company that sells hosting, that is almost certainly the host. Indian shared hosting sites usually show the host itself or the data centre it rents space in.
Cloudflare or another CDN
A content delivery network such as Cloudflare, Akamai or Fastly sits in front of the site, answers visitors itself and fetches pages from the hidden origin server. The checker tells you when it sees one. Beyond that, look at the nameservers, the site's footer and its "powered by" line, or simply ask the owner.
Amazon, Google or Microsoft
The site runs on a public cloud. That might be the owner's own cloud account, or a hosting company or agency that rents cloud servers and resells them. The country tells you the region, which matters for speed: a site for Indian visitors loads faster from a nearby region than from the other side of the world.
An internet service provider
Sometimes the owner is a broadband or cable company. That usually means the site is served from an office connection or a small local server, and it is worth asking how it is backed up.
Why people check who hosts a site
A common reason is the simplest one: "I don't know where my own website is." A freelancer built it years ago, the renewal emails go to an old address, and the site is suddenly down. The network owner and nameservers tell you which company to call. Others use the checker before buying a website or a business, to size up a competitor's setup, to report abuse to the right host, or to plan a move to a faster or cheaper host.

How do I find out who hosts a website?
Type the website address into the checker above. It looks up the IP address the site points to, then asks the regional internet registry (APNIC for India and Asia, ARIN for North America, RIPE for Europe) which organisation that address belongs to. That organisation is usually the web host or the data centre the host rents from.
Why does the checker say Cloudflare?
Because the site uses Cloudflare as a proxy and CDN. Visitors connect to Cloudflare, and Cloudflare fetches the pages from the real server, whose address stays hidden. No public tool can see past it. Clues that remain are the nameservers, the site's footer or "powered by" line, and asking the owner.
The result says Amazon, Google or Microsoft. Is that the host?
It is the cloud the server runs on, not necessarily the company the owner pays. Many hosting companies and agencies rent servers from Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Azure and resell space on them. The country and network name still tell you roughly where the site lives.
Can I use this to find where my own website is hosted?
Yes, and it is a common reason to use it. If a developer set up your site years ago and you no longer know where it lives, the network owner and the nameservers point you to the right company. Then check your email for invoices from that company, or run a WHOIS lookup on your domain to see where the domain itself is registered.
Is the hosting checker free?
Yes, with no sign-up. To stop automated scraping, each visitor can run about 40 checks in any 10 minutes. If you reach the limit, wait a few minutes.
Why is the country different from where the business is?
The country is where the IP address is registered, which is usually where the server or the host's head office is. A Kochi shop can run on a server in Singapore or the US and nobody notices, although a server closer to your customers generally loads faster for them.
