Broken link checker — find dead links on any page
Enter a page address and we test every link and image on it, up to 100, in parallel. You get the HTTP status of each one, where redirects end up, and the broken links highlighted in red. Free, no sign-up.
How the link checker works
Links rot. Studies of old web pages keep finding that a large share of their outbound links no longer work after a few years. A quick check before you publish, and again every few months, keeps your pages useful.
Read the page
We download the page's HTML and collect every <a href> link and <img> source, resolving relative addresses the way a browser does.
Test each link
Up to 100 unique addresses are checked in parallel with a quick HEAD request, falling back to GET when a server refuses HEAD. Redirects are followed up to three hops.
Sort the results
Broken links come first, then links we could not judge, then redirects, then working links. Filter the table or download it as a CSV to work through later.
Reading the status codes
- 200 OK — the link works.
- 301 / 308 — permanently moved. The link still works, but update it to the new address.
- 302 / 307 — temporary redirect. Common on login pages and shortened links; usually fine.
- 404 / 410 — the page is gone. Replace the link or remove it.
- 403 / 429 / 999 — the site refused our check. Often the page is fine; open it to confirm.
- 5xx or no answer — the server is down, or the domain has expired. Check again later; if it stays down, remove the link.
Fixing broken links on WordPress
Edit the post and update or remove the link. For a page you deleted or renamed on your own site, add a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one (the Redirection plugin or a line in .htaccess), so visitors and search engines following old links still land somewhere useful.

What counts as a broken link?
A link whose address answers with an error: 404 Not found, 410 Gone, a 5xx server error, or no answer at all (the domain has expired, the server is down, or the connection times out). Those are shown in red. Redirects are not broken, but each extra hop slows visitors down, so it is worth pointing the link at the final address.
Why do some links show 403 or 999 instead of a clear result?
Some big sites (LinkedIn, Instagram, some news sites and shops) refuse automated checks and answer 403 Forbidden, 429 Too many requests or LinkedIn's own 999 even when the page exists. We mark those grey as "unsure" rather than broken. Open them in your browser to be certain.
How many links does the checker test?
Up to 100 unique links and images on the page you enter, checked in parallel. Each link is tried with a quick HEAD request first and a normal GET if the server refuses HEAD, and redirects are followed up to three hops. Mail, phone and JavaScript links and #anchors on the same page are skipped.
Does it crawl my whole website?
No, it checks one page at a time, which keeps it fast and free. Run it on your homepage, your most visited posts and pages with many outbound links, such as resource lists. For a WordPress site, a link-checker plugin can scan every post on a schedule.
Do broken links hurt SEO?
A few broken outbound links will not sink a page, but they are a quality signal and a bad experience for visitors. Broken internal links matter more: they waste crawl budget and stop link value from reaching the pages you want to rank. Fix or remove them, and 301-redirect any page you delete to its closest replacement.
Is the broken link checker free?
Yes, with no sign-up and nothing stored. Because one check makes up to 100 requests, each visitor can run a limited number of checks in any 10 minutes.
