Why website owners look up ASNs
When a site is flooded with fake sign-ups or login attempts, the attackers usually sit in a few data-centre networks. Look up the IPs in your log with the bulk IP lookup, see which ASN they share, and block that network's prefixes instead of chasing single addresses. The same list works the other way round: allow only your office ISP's prefixes into an admin area.
ASN, ISP and hosting company
Every ISP, mobile operator and hosting company with its own IP space has at least one ASN. Big operators run several: Airtel has separate ones for mobile, broadband and its backbone. Smaller hosts and local cable ISPs often rent addresses from an upstream provider and appear under that provider's ASN. To see which company hosts a particular website, use the hosting checker.

What is an ASN?
An autonomous system number (ASN) identifies one network on the internet: an ISP, a mobile operator, a cloud, a hosting company or a large enterprise. Each network announces the IP address blocks it routes under its ASN, and every router on the internet uses those announcements to decide where to send traffic. Reliance Jio is AS55836; Google is AS15169.
How do I find the ASN of an IP address?

What is the ASN of Jio, Airtel and BSNL?
Reliance Jio uses AS55836. Airtel uses several: AS45609 for mobile data, AS24560 for home broadband and AS9498 for its backbone and business links. BSNL's national internet backbone is AS9829. Vodafone Idea (Vi) uses AS38266 and AS55410. Click any of them above to see their IP ranges.
What does "prefix" mean in the result?
A prefix is a block of IP addresses written in CIDR notation, such as 49.36.0.0/14. The number after the slash says how big the block is: a /24 is 256 IPv4 addresses, a /16 is 65,536. The prefix list is everything the network currently announces to the internet, so it is the complete list of IP ranges in use by that network.
Can I use the prefix list to block or allow a network?
Yes, that is a common use. Copy the IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes into your firewall, .htaccess or Cloudflare rules to block a network that is attacking your site, or to allow only your office ISP into an admin page. Why is the country different from where the company is?
The country shown is where the ASN is registered. Global networks such as Cloudflare, Google and Amazon are registered in the US but announce addresses used worldwide, including in India. To see where one specific address is used, run an IP lookup on it.
